Welcome to Please, Do Tell.
I’m Lourdes, and I started this newsletter to write about travel—but it has evolved into something much deeper.
With a background in International Human Rights and a passion for storytelling, I explore travel beyond borders, weaving in the human narratives that shape our world.
My hope? To spark curiosity, foster meaningful conversations, and inspire us all to be better global citizens.
Each week, you'll find:
📖 Essays on immigration, global conflicts, and gender equality—how these issues intersect with travel and shape our responsibilities as global citizens.
📚 A book club exploring travel and culture through the works of female authors.
🎤 Armchair travel through guest interviews.
🗺️ Stories and guides from my journeys around the world.
I’d love for you to join the conversation. Let’s explore the world—one story at a time.
Lourdes Martin, a New Yorker who writes about travel and culture. After blogging for ten years, she launched Recuerdos, an online souvenir shop and retail curation studio. After working with makers from around the world to source products, she decided to expand her offerings to retailers and hospitality spaces, looking to bring products that reflect authenticity, craftsmanship, and purpose. Lourdes holds an M.S. in International Human Rights from New York University and her academic journey has taken her to different regions of the world to gain insight and on-the-ground experience.
A city girl at heart with a passion for the countryside, she enjoys urban life but dreams of having a small farm. When she's not diving into travel research, reading, or watching reruns of The Gilded Age, she's exploring places with her husband.
