Hi there,
I hope you are all having a great week; I’m popping in here with an extra free post for this month because I needed to share these places with you all. Thomas and I have been in Malaga, Spain, for nearly a week and are still here. A family wedding brought us here, but it’s not our first time in the Andalucia region, and it definitely won’t be our last. A few years ago we’ve traveled to Sevilla, Cordoba and Granada. This region of Spain is very special and has a little bit of everything you would want - mountains, beaches, city life, and the country. I have so many photos to show you and a travel guide to share, but more on that later…because I want to share the magical village of Frigiliana with you right now.
Frigiliana is about a 50 min car ride from Malaga and known for its Moorish influence and architecture. It’s been voted one of the prettiest villages of Andalucia by the Spain tourism board and one of the top 10 most beautiful in Spain! So now you understand why I had to see it - we were too close and couldn’t miss it.
We arrived around 3ish afternoon to let the heat drop and avoid people because it’s their touristy season. The minute you park the car and start exploring, you are overwhelmed by the beauty and charm of this village. We spent the day strolling, eating and drinking local food and wine, chatting with locals and other travelers. It was easy. We didn’t have an actual “plan” - the goal was to explore lightly. This village is not for the traveler looking to keep busy…; after 1 pm, many businesses close for hours or the day. So while it might be touristy, you will find plenty of areas as you walk where you might be all to yourself.
Thomas and I fell in love with this village - I even had to stop and stand in silence a few times….to breathe the air that smelled like the fragrant flowers that adorned each window and alleyways and to quietly take it all in. As I walked and saw glimpses of what life looks like here, I was quiet and reflective, trying to be present and mediate in this perfect moment.
I seriously can’t wait to share a travel guide for this region in more detail - it will be available for paid subscribers - so please consider upgrading your subscription! In total I will release three travel guides…one for Malaga, Ronda and Frigiliana. Each guide will include where to stay, eat, shop and a packing list.
But for now, wherever this newsletter finds you, I hope this postcard from Frigiliana brings you joy and a little armchair wanderlust.
Con amor,
Lourdes
