Hi there,
Today, I want to highlight hidden travel gems that don't always make the glossy magazine "top lists." What got me thinking about writing this post is the number of people flooding my Instagram that were traveling to popular spots in Europe this past Summer was astounding. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Europe. It's where I've created some of my most cherished travel memories. Countries like Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France hold a special place in my heart. Thomas and I got engaged in Paris and tied the knot in Italy, on the picturesque Amalfi Coast, long before it became an Instagram sensation. We've also enjoyed celebrations of weddings in Portugal and Spain with friends and family. I share this to emphasize that I'm a fan and understand the obsession. However, there's an entire world out there waiting to be explored, and I can't wait to continue sharing destinations on my radar. But for now, if Europe is still your preferred destination, I've compiled a list of lesser-known places that are just as captivating as their more famous counterparts.
San Sebastián instead of Barcelona
San Sebastián is often hailed as a food lover's paradise, with its world-renowned pintxos (small delicious dishes) and numerous Michelin-starred restaurants. If you're passionate about food, this city is a must-visit. The city's location on the Basque coast provides a unique blend of urban charm and coastal serenity, perfect for those looking to explore beyond the city life.

Folegandros instead of Santorini
So, how did we end up on this remote island of Greece? Folegandros is one of the oldest Cyclades islands and the least popular of its two trendier neighbors, Santorini and Crete. We have Starwood Hotels and Design Hotels to thank for that since we had never heard of Folegandros, let alone the hotel. When planning this entire trip, I knew I wanted to add one smaller and “unspoiled” island by tourists – so Mykonos was out of the question for us. I want to visit Mykonos one day, but I think there is something special about traveling to remote areas. Folegandros is 12 miles long, with less than 1,000 people, no airport, no port for cruise ships, and one taxi cab for the entire island. While we also did travel to Santorini and thought it was beautiful, Folegandros was our favorite.

Ponza, Italy instead of Amalfi Coast
While you're probably well-acquainted with the Amalfi Coast, have you heard of Ponza? This charming alternative has gorgeous beaches, secluded coves, and breathtaking panoramic vistas. One of my friends traveled here this past Summer and is obsessed because it's way cheaper than the Amalfi Coast and still a hidden gem that most tourists are unaware of. If you're traveling to Rome but also want an under-the-radar beach getaway, look into Ponza. You won't regret it.

Albania instead of Croatia
Albania and Croatia have their own charm, and the choice ultimately depends on your preferences. Albania can be the better choice if you're looking for a more tranquil and less commercialized travel experience. Albania boasts stunning landscapes, from pristine beaches along the Ionian and Adriatic coasts to rugged regions like the Accursed Mountains (Albanian Alps).
