I miss sharing places with you.

As this newsletter has shifted, I’ve written fewer guides. But I still believe that places, objects, and people can tell a much larger story.

As people move through the world across borders, seas, and continents, they carry traditions, rituals, and skills with them. They share what they know, often quietly. Sometimes that sharing is born of joy; sometimes, of necessity. Migration is layered, complex, and deeply human.

At a moment when movement is so often spoken about with fear, this series chooses openness and curiosity instead, honoring the global cultures that make our lives that much sweeter. It is called Compartiremos—we will share.

These are small curations of place and belonging, shaped by the beauty people carry with them from their home countries as they move through the world.

About an hour and fifteen minutes from New York City lies the charming town of Irvington. As you arrive in the downtown area, one of the first spots you’ll notice is Don Carvajal Coffee Shop, proudly displaying the Dominican flag, with a welcoming scent of coffee wafting through the air.
